Re: Lyme disease and Horses: Rates & Diagnosis

"...fewer than 10% of horses show any symptoms." Well, there's your kicker (sorry). One can simply chalk symptoms in those 10% up to the normal vagaries of age and everyday life, yes?

Still, the article does seem to reference degree. Wonder if those symptoms were self reported.

Spanky: "...it's not my job." Sure it is, if you or someone you love is a sufferer. You're just compensated with a different brand of currency.

Re: Nervous System LD (as per Dr. J.J. Halperin)

Yes, I could. :) Ok, but only one for now, and this out of the IDSA guidelines, if that's alright. Under "Background & Diagnosis of Late Neurologic Lyme Disease", a study refers to late neuroborreliosis and the efficacy of different doses of ceftriaxone: "The overall frequency of persistent symptoms...

Overlook = the name of the hospital Halperin is out of. Located in Summit, NJ, USA. Sorry. And yes, evidence is good.

Re: Nervous System LD (as per Dr. J.J. Halperin)

Well, if I'm not mistaken, that claim is disputed in some circles. It would have been nice for one of Overlook's finest to acknowledge that, wouldn't you agree? Maybe he does in the full article; I have not read that yet. All I'm suggesting is a balanced perspective can be healthy for progress. Abso...

Spanky. Do I know better? Nope. But I can still wonder. I can still read. And on the internet even.

Re: Nervous System LD (as per Dr. J.J. Halperin)

"Although patients ill with Lyme disease may have concomitant cognitive or memory difficulty, these symptoms are not specific to neuroborreliosis and, when present in isolation, should not be viewed as suggestive of this diagnosis. When present as part of Lyme disease, they do not require additional...

Re: Nervous System LD (as per Dr. J.J. Halperin)

"Regardless of the form of involvement, neuroborreliosis can be microbiologically cured in virtually all patients using standard 2 to 4 week antimicrobial regimens..." My. That's quite a pronouncement.

Re: Lyme neuroborreliosis as described in 1999

Exactly! The pervasive use of Latin always throws those pesky impertinent "online laypersons." They need to know their place.
