Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) causes serious harm

Another "cure" marketed aggressively in LymeLand is bad enough for the FDA to step in. I see that hasty disclaimers were put up after the FDA told people to stop using the junk. I compared the cached versions with the updated versions of sites hawking the stuff to read the cover-your-ass (cya) statements. Pathetic.

FDA Warns Consumers of Serious Harm from Drinking Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS)

Product contains industrial strength bleach

FDA NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release: July 30, 2010
Media Inquiries: Elaine Gansz Bobo, 301-796-7567, elaine.bobo@fda.hhs.gov
Consumer Inquiries: 888-INFO-FDA
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to take Miracle Mineral Solution, an oral liquid also known as “Miracle Mineral Supplement” or “MMS.” The product, when used as directed, produces an industrial bleach that can cause serious harm to health.

The FDA has received several reports of health injuries from consumers using this product, including severe nausea, vomiting, and life-threatening low blood pressure from dehydration.

Consumers who have MMS should stop using it immediately and throw it away.

MMS is distributed on Internet sites and online auctions by multiple independent distributors. Although the products share the MMS name, the look of the labeling may vary.

The product instructs consumers to mix the 28 percent sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice. This mixture produces chlorine dioxide, a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industrial water treatment. High oral doses of this bleach, such as those recommended in the labeling, can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and symptoms of severe dehydration.

MMS claims to treat multiple unrelated diseases, including HIV, hepatitis, the H1N1 flu virus, common colds, acne, cancer, and other conditions. The FDA is not aware of any research that MMS is effective in treating any of these conditions. MMS also poses a significant health risk to consumers who may choose to use this product for self-treatment instead of seeking FDA-approved treatments for these conditions.

The FDA continues to investigate and may pursue civil or criminal enforcement actions as appropriate to protect the public from this potentially dangerous product.

The FDA advises consumers who have experienced any negative side effects from MMS to consult a health care professional as soon as possible and to discard the product. Consumers and health care professionals should report adverse events to the FDA’s MedWatch program at 800-FDA-1088 or online at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm.

FDA Launches a Warning Against Fake Drug MMS
After detecting a series of life threatening side effects of the drug, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a public alert, warning people that Miracle Mineral Solution is not just a swindle, but it is also an almost-lethal swindle.
...The claimed efficacy of the product results from the simpler ingredients and the less use of science, which, according to the promoting websites, enhances the drugs `organicity'.
The next step, U. S. regulators stated, would be tracing the Internet sites and the online auctions that publicise such products or, by any means, facilitate its purchase in order to ensure the public safety. This move would be followed by civil law suits being charged against the product's manufacturers, as well as the promoters.

I just noticed that "internationally recognized", "critically acclaimed" Lyme "researcher" Bryan Rosner is one of them: http://www.lymebook.com/mms-miracle-min ... e-book-dvd

It seems he is getting scared...

If you check the cached version:

The second heading was: "What Is MMS? An Introduction from Bryan Rosner:"
The last sentence was: "You can purchase MMS here." On the page the URL is linking to, you can find: "Reseller ID: BioMed (1464)."

The page on lymebook also had this ad:

Bryan Rosner sells MMS?

Looks like Bryan Rosner has a problem!

Hey Bryan Rosner, you are being reported!! :woohoo:

Perhaps it is too late for the following book although it might be of historical significance:

http://www.projectgreenlife.com/cart/pc ... iliate=862

MMS Simplified for Lyme Disease (English - 2nd Edition) E-BOOK

by Dr Larry A. Smith PhThD

This book contains the newest suggested protocols for battling Lyme Disease. Jim Humble praises Larry's writings, "I am very impressed... I wish you every success in the world with your books... that could be important."

MMS offers a uniquely diverse arsenal for assaulting Lyme Disease. Though it may prove to be the best alternative weapon to destroy tick-borne pathogens, Dr. Larry Smith refuses to be disingenuous by offering unsubstantiated claims and false hope. Instead, he believes it may take years and double-blind studies before success may be assured. This book may offer major help against this monster.

In MMS Simplified for Lyme Disease, Dr. Larry Smith tackles the most secretive of Germ Warfare development dating back to the Paper Clip program at WW II's end. This clandestine plan smuggled Nazi Scientists into the United States. Plum Island's Lab hired many of them to alter pathogens which were causing animal-diseases. Their devious assignment: change these "bugs" into horridly incurable ones that could infect targeted human groups. Old Lyme, Connecticut, home of the first Lyme Disease cases, is but a stone's throw north of Plum Island. Accident? Coincidence? Or a Diabolical Plan?
BTW what is a PhThD????

Of course, LymeLand encourages the concept of the 'herx' to explain away any adverse reactions people get taking this chemical. This ignorant enabling encourages harm to people.

Google 'mms lyme herx' to find a lot of 'MMS herxes': http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=n ... +lyme+herx

Here is an ignorant explanation to a solid question:
http://www.natmedtalk.com/mms-miracle-m ... seous.html
why does MMS make people nauseous?
it's called a herxheimer reaction. when you take the MMS, it usually either kills alot of bacteria, parasites, viruses, or it oxidizes stuff like iron, magnesium, mercury, etc. when you have alot of that going on all at once, the liver and kidneys cannot process it all out fast enough hence the nauseous feeling. some people get fevers, some people get pains, others diaherrea. it's usually because when a pathogen dies the cell body that is the bacteria or viruses etc. explodes and the insides of the pathogen cell are let loose into the body. many times this stuff that is let loose is a toxin of some sort and will make you sick. do not worry though, it will pass usually in a few hours sometimes longer.
view thread http://www.lymeneteurope.org/forum/view ... =30#p22715 that points out more MMS 'herx' advice and other harmful nonsense.

Health Canada
The issue

Health Canada is warning Canadians of the risks to health associated with use of the unauthorized drug product, Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), which was distributed on the Internet by MMSsupplier.com to treat drinking water. According to the information provided on the company's website, Miracle Mineral Solution is a 28% solution of sodium chlorite. Health Canada advises that sodium chlorite is a chemical used mainly as a textile bleaching agent and disinfectant.

Health Canada advises that using this product as directed may cause serious health problems. Ingestion of water treated with Miracle Mineral Solution (28% sodium chlorite solution) has been associated with two adverse reactions in Canada, including one life threatening reaction.

Who is affected

Canadians who have purchased Miracle Mineral Solution on the Internet from MMSsupplier.com. This product has been promoted on MMSsupplier.com for use in infants and children, as well as adults.
What Health Canada is doing

Health Canada has notified the owner of MMSsupplier.com that the sale of 28% sodium chlorite products as a therapeutic product is in contravention of the Food and Drugs Act. Ingesting these products poses a risk to human health. It is important to note that the Miracle Mineral Solution product label and the former MMSsupplier.com website claim that the product contains sodium chlorite. However, the Miracle Mineral Solution product is not authorized for sale as a drug in Canada.

Health Canada has requested MMSsupplier.com to remove these products from the Canadian market. The owner of MMSsupplier.com has indicated that they are no longer selling this product.
Background

Miracle Mineral Solution distributed by MMSsupplier.com claims to contain 28% sodium chlorite solution. Based on these claims, when taken as directed, Miracle Mineral Solution provides approximately 200 times more sodium chlorite than the tolerable daily intake of sodium chlorite in water established by Health Canada.

No drug products containing sodium chlorite have been approved by Health Canada for oral consumption by humans. Sodium chlorite is authorized in Canada for use as a germicide by veterinarians and as a hard surface disinfectant. Sodium chlorite is commonly used for bleaching textiles, pulp and paper, as well as in the generation of disinfectant for drinking water treatment.

Ingestion of water treated with Miracle Mineral Solution (28% sodium chlorite solution) has been associated with two adverse reactions in Canada, including one life threatening reaction. Health Canada advises that oral consumption of sodium chlorite may cause health problems such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea or more serious problems such as, poisoning, kidney failure and harm to red blood cells that reduces the ability of the blood to carry oxygen, among others.
How to report side effects to health products

Here a sore kidney is explained away as a 'Herx':

Sore kidney area / Herx
#46511
It's because of MMS. Been on it a week now. Is this normal? I think I may have had some type of infection in the kidney area and the MMS is possibly causing some healing to take place.
It's so sore there that I can hardly touch my kidney area right now. The skin on my kidney area hurts most of all - not the actual kidney.

I'm at 2 drops x 3 times daily. I feel achy but I also feel really optimistic about my future and MMS to help keep most microbes well under control.

Oceanman
I am having the same side effects: sore kidney area. I had taken 4days/one drop and 2 days/two drops before stopping because of stomach discomfort (bloated and knotty). Then, four days later the kidney soreness began. Herx, has your kidney started to feel better? Did you eventually continue with your MMS?
No further posts after that.

Boy, when you start reading the adverse reactions people have to this chemical--and the encouragement to carry on--it makes you sick. Some of the cancer patient experiments are really awful to read.

A Lyme person in a lot of pain: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Lyme-Disea ... how/350207
have been taking MMS since before Thanks Giving. I started out with one drop . A friend said it could cause a little nausea. I had been on so many antibiotics that made me so sick that I thought no problem, I can handle nausea. After the first drop I waited 2 hours and took 6 drops. The next day I jumped to 15. My stomach hurt a little, but I thought, I can deal with this. It will be worth it. ( I was using citric acid with my drops) I did this the next three days. by Thursday I thought I was dying I was in so much pain. My Joints hurt, and my entire insides hurt. my kidneys hurt.I also had a rash on my neck.I also had diarea (diarrhea). I skipped the next day and decided to take the drops before bed instead of morning time. I could not aford to feel this bad at work.( also I noticed if I drank coffee around the time I took the drops my stomach hurt real bad.)...

Last Thursday I took 15 drops and went to bed. I was restless and could not fall asleep. I started shivering and every joint ,muscle and part of my body hurt. I got up and sat in a hot bath. I was in pain for 18 hours nothing helped. I still don't know if I had the flu or a detox reaction or both. Also my furnace flu was clogged at work and I thought maybe I had carbon monoxide poison. My husband did not think so. I did not taked the mms for 2 days.In fact I told my husband no more drops, I quit.. I went back to 6 drops. My husband encouraged to to stick with it. I can not stand to smell the drops now. I feel that sometimes my body can not handle how fast the drops kill of the lymes and that is when I feel real bad. I feel it is best at first to take it real slow and listen to your body. I try to stay at 15 to 18 drop each day. When I feel real bad I try to back off a little. I really feel that mms is going to be the answer for me....

Alert issued on danger supplement

Food watchdogs have issued an alert after finding that a chemical marketed online as a health supplement was similar to industrial-strength bleach.

'Miracle Mineral Supplement' is 28% sodium chlorite - which becomes bleach when mixed with citric acid.

Even taken as instructed, experts say it can cause severe vomiting and diarrhoea - and mixing it wrongly could lead to respiratory failure.

The Food Standards Agency is seeking to track down any UK-based sellers.

The supplement, which claims to have beneficial effects against a wide range of illnesses, ranging from HIV and hepatitis to H1N1 flu, has already been the subject of warnings from the Food and Drug Agency (FDA) in the US.

Now UK consumers are being urged to dispose of the supplement as soon as possible, and help the Food Standards Agency and local authorities find suppliers in this country.

It is still apparently on sale here through a number of sites, one offering a 100ml bottle for £33.

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency said: "People should not take Miracle Mineral Supplement or Miracle Mineral Solution.

"This product is equivalent to industrial-strength bleach.

"The agency is working with local authorities across the UK to stop this product being sold. If anyone finds this product on sale please get in touch with your local authority trading standards department as soon as possible."

Legal action

In the US, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported cases of severe nausea and vomiting among people taking the supplement, even though they had mixed it according to the instructions provided.

When sodium chlorite is mixed with acid, it becomes chlorine dioxide, the active ingredient in bleach.

Household bleach is generally less than 5% chlorine dioxide, and if users failed to follow dilution instructions properly it could mean an even more potent concentration ends up in the body, said experts.

This could cause damage to the gut and red blood cells, potentially leading to respiratory failure.

Because sodium chlorite is not licensed as a food supplement in the UK, local authorities have the power to take legal action against any company supplying it from an address in their area.

The BBC approached one UK-based company selling the supplement via the internet, but no response has been forthcoming.

BTW: Rosner/BioMed removed the pages about MMS from their sites. What would be the reason: for the potential consumers' sake or Rosner/BioMed own sake (avoiding legal action)?

This is my fifth attempt to post this (due to some minor confusion) because I think it's important.

The Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), although renamed and repackaged, is being marketed again. The following English and French links were posted on a Canadian forum earlier today:

http://www.miraclemineral.org/
http://lemineralmiracle.com/

I posted last year's advisories from Health Canada and the FDA in that thread, and will alert Health Canada to the changes in the product name and packaging. I would encourage others to do the same for their national health authorities.

With any luck, someone here will have a bit more concentration to dig deeper by following the various links. This is where I found information about the renaming of the product:

http://www.themastermineralsolution.com/
This is the new MMS – Master Mineral Solution website, previously known as Miracle Mineral Solution.

As you may already know, the word Miracle phases out and the word Master replaces it. The word MMS remains the same though.

There were quite a few people that liked the word “miracle”, and there is many that disliked it, so we decided to change the name to Master Mineral Solution.

Jim Humble said in his recent newsletter…

“The FDA and others will play on our name change for a while but eventually that will die out as MMS becomes known as the “Master Mineral of the Third Millennium.”

He says… “This is The Master Mineral of The New Millennium.”

I also liked when he said that…

“Someday, hopefully soon, there will be dozens of master minerals and MMS will just be one of a line up of Master Minerals. Until that time comes, however, MMS remains the most important mineral known to the human race.”
The French site clearly demonstrates that the combination of MMS and the citric acid accelerator (which results in a bleach-like product) is still being promoted:

http://mmsfrancais.com/

There's more digging to be done but I'm afraid I can't do it at the moment. Any volunteers?
