Spirochetes present in Total HIP Joint Replacement tissues

As the controversy concerning persistence of Spirochetes in joint tissues continues to evolve,
I offer the image below from a consultation case which I received. The patient had undergone
surgery for a total hip joint replacement. His physician forwarded to me, a about 100cc of
bone and soft tissue from the total hip joint replacement, with a request to evaluate the
specimen for spirochetes. At the time I was offering Warthin Starrry Staining, performed in parallel
with known positive control material for the B31 strain of Borrelia burgdorferi obtained from the
American Type culture collection. I include a report with negative findings from another patient
for comparison.

Conclusion: Selected cases of human total hip joint resection for presumed osteoarthritis
may disclose histological evidence of spirochetes morphologically compatible with Borrelia
burgodrferi.

The patient specimens are of such poor quality, that the results are uninterpretable. I'd be ashamed to show such shoddy work. Sorry, I'm not convinced.

Spirochetes in tissue demonstrate diverse morphologies. The Dot like granular form is so small that it
passes through a 0.2 micron filter.

Compare with Spirochetes from Bockenstedt
[Figure 5 J. Clin Invest 2012]

Dr Stephen Barthold has said that mice do not develop neuroborreliosis.
Likewise, it is possible that mice do not develop cartilage loss in the laboratory arthritis model
of Dr Bockenstedt.

Perhaps there is no acceptable animal model for the full repertoire of Lyme Borreliosis
related tissue injury - except the human being.

The spirochetal histology of a case of human degenerative arthritis (ABOVE) requiring total hip replacement argues for the role of persistent spirochetal mediated permanent joint injury in the Human.

Comment: There are no known image properties , other than the use of the LIVE-DEAD assay
from Invitrogen, to distinguish living spirochetes from Dead spirochetes.

Use of the LIVE DEAD Assay is a necessary step to add to the studies done by Dr Bockenstedt.
Viable but non cultivatible organisms are difficult to exclude in her studies published to date.
