Within 3 weeks after completion of therapy, two patients developed facial palsy alone, but were other- wise well. Two weeks after finishing tetracycline therapy, one patient had intermittent palpitations for 1 month that were found to be due to supraventricular tachycardia. However, she also felt w...

Re: Inadequacy of IgM Antibody Tests for Diagnosis of RMSF

Or, do they mean to say that the suspected cases have been ruled to not be true cases of the disease and hence positive IgM were false positives? Hmmm... Ok... Wouldn't you want to assess false positivity by testing on a population that you don't suspect have the disease?

Re: Inadequacy of IgM Antibody Tests for Diagnosis of RMSF

Although the number of patients studied was small, our results indicate that immunologic reactions resulting in false positive IgM findings occur for RMSF and the SFGR in the United States, impacting clinical diagnostic interpretation and public health reporting. Don't they mean "false negative" he...

Re: LymePolicyWonk: Patient-Powered Research and Lyme Diseas

If anyone can take the survey, then the results are less reliable. If those who have been identified as having had Lyme disease - even if only a clinical diagnosis, and serology was negative - then the reliability improves. I agree with you, but the way I see it, who you ask and what you ask are tw...

Re: LymePolicyWonk: Patient-Powered Research and Lyme Diseas

However, I think one has to somehow determine that those who take that survey have had Lyme disease and been clinically diagnosed with it at the very least - even if they only had partially positive serology and didn't meet the CDC band spread for positive. Or even if they were negative, but had a ...

Re: LymePolicyWonk: Patient-Powered Research and Lyme Diseas

TicksSuck: I disagree. If you are developing a Lyme specific questionnaire, don't you think you need to know and/or define what you are talking about? That makes good sense and should be a minimal requirement. CampOther certainly agrees and recognizes that as a challenge that must be met. But, I've...

Re: LymePolicyWonk: Patient-Powered Research and Lyme Diseas

Duncan: I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I overlooked an absolutely vital essential feature in the development of a Lyme disease specific questionnaire, namely, a precise definition of CLD/PTLD as a distinct clinical entity so that it can be distinguished from other medical conditions with simi...

I want to be certain that Lyme is present before I take multiple antibiotics for several months. This kind of long term multiple antibiotics treatment have not been validated by a peer review process either! Do you believe in the peer review process for Lyme tests but not for treatment? How about j...
