Exceeding the maximum allowed number of login attempts

Post by admin » Sat 5 Mar 2011 23:32

Nota Bene: when you try to log in, you might get the following message:
You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below..
You can get this message without any failed login attempts from you.

It is probably caused by hack attempts, where with the use of programs automatically internet forums are scanned, after which the passwords are being guessed for the found accounts. This is a worldwide problem, en the past weeks this seems to occur more often, because there are several forum members who notified this problem.

As a protection against these hack attemps the forum will also ask to solve a CAPTCHA after a few failed login attempt. The annoying part of this is that the owner of the account will also get to see the message. On LymeNet Europe you are then asked to fill in your invitation code. If you registered recently you can still use the same invitation code. If your code doesn't work or you never got one (because you registering before the use of an invitation code), then please request a code via e-mail: http://www.lymeneteurope.org/about/contact.html

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Tip: if you check the box with "Log me on automatically each visit" while logging in and you don't log out when visiting this forum, then you also won't get these annoying messages.
