What name is given to the alleged virus?
What kind of antivirus software is giving this message?
Re: virus
Warning!
THE SERVER THAT LYMENET EUROPE IS RUNNING ON IS VERY LIKELY HACKED, WHICH SOMETIMES MAKES IT SERVE MALICIOUS CONTENT BY MEANS OF INJECTED CODE.
IF YOU SUDDENLY SEE AN ANTIVIRUS MESSAGE APPEAR WHILE VISITING LYMENET EUROPE, THEN IT IS PROBABLY A FAKE ANTIVIRUS MESSAGE SERVED BY THE MALICIOUS CODE. DO NOT CLICK OKAY TO LET THE FAKE PROGRAM RUN A SCAN OR ANYTHING, BUT TRY TO CLOSE THE WINDOWS.
please read this message for more info: http://www.lymeneteurope.org/forum/view ... 768#p19768

Re: virus
is this an ACTIVE or PASSIVE risk??
if passive that means we can only be "infected" if we click on the message and if we dont click we are okay
if active we can be infected just by being here
have you contacted the server??? what do they say about this??
thanks for being so vigilant!!!

Re: virus
I think it's a passive risk. Yesterday I have let several programs check my PC because of that fake message and nothing was found, which surprised me. But I think now that may be because those messages are served from a webpage only. As long as you don't take the bait probably nothing bad enters your PC.is this an ACTIVE or PASSIVE risk??

Check that other message for more info.
Yes, I contacted the web hosting provider. No response yet. Note that it's 6:15 AM here now. I stayed up all night to deal with this, and will go to sleep now.have you contacted the server??? what do they say about this??

Re: virus
I noticed this happening awhile back on LNE and it appeared like the NYTime virus or "unauthorized advertisement" that popped up when I read that http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10351460-83.html
The wording was the same.
I come into the site from different locations and postings on the site, and this seems to keep the virus messages at bay.

Re: virus
I notified my provider; I was told that they checked the server, but didn't discover anything peculiar. I told them that it won't be easy to discover and pointed them to the "How to resolve the issue" section in this article: http://blog.unmaskparasites.com/2009/07 ... redirects/
This security check now says that LNE seems to be clean: http://www.UnmaskParasites.com/security ... europe.org (this may change though, so I will keep checking this)
I think that the problems are only active during a part of the day, mostly in the evening and night of Central European Time (CET). That's roughly during the afternoon and evening in the USA.
Further, some protection programs or protection settings in your OS or browser might protect you from this, preventing the display of the fake virus messages.
I will keep you updated.
