Intrathecal IgG production and oligoclonal IgG bands are common findings in chronic progressive Lyme encephalitis, which can usually be distinguished from multiple sclerosis by higher cell counts and more pronounced impairment of the blood-CSF-barrier. Patients with chronic polyneuropathy (associated or not with acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans) have normal CSF findings.
