Lyme Disease & Brain Tumor

Post by filfla4 » Sun 16 Dec 2012 21:24

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I live on the tiny island of Malta. I was diagnosed with Lyme 9 months ago by a doctor in Belgium, after being midiagnosed in Malta with ME for 19yrs. Typically my diagnosis was met with scepticism by my local doctors. Nevertheless, I have had 4 weeks of IV abx and am now on three different oral abx. Since my diagnosis I have had my whole family tested. My husband and one of my two teenage sons are also positive and are also being treated.

My 16 yr old son (negative for Lyme) was diagnosed with a brain tumour 18 months ago. He has undergone extensive surgery in the UK (9hrs), where they managed to remove 60-70% of the tumour. The rest is inoperable. I have repeatedly asked his medical team if there could be a connection between Lyme and his brain tumour, and of course this suggestion has not been considered.

I have come across this journal article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1584393

Is there anyone in this group who might have access to the full text of this article?

I would very much like to have my son's biopsy tissue tested for Lyme.

Thank you for your help.

Abstract
In childhood, facial nerve palsy and headache are typical symptoms of second and third stage neuroborreliosis. While focal demyelination is occasionally observed on MRI scans, the appearance of a tumorous lesion is extremely rare. The case of a 10-year-old girl with neuroborreliosis mimicking a space-occupying lesion in the brainstem, without any previously recognized manifestations of borreliosis, is reported.
