ILADS conference Europe, 27 May 2011, Augsburg, Germany

Post by Martian » Tue 4 Jan 2011 3:08

Looks like the ILADS finally goes international, because there will be the second ILADS conference in Europe in May 2011; the first was last year in the UK. Should Euro Lymeland be happy now?

As you can read in the previous post, the conference is being organized by ILADS members Dr. Carsten Nicolaus and Dr. Armin Schwarzbach on behalf of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society.

Nicolaus and Schwarzbach are from the dubious "holistic, alternative" Borreliose Centrum Augsburg in Germany, where amongst other they use Electro Acupuncture, Bioresonance and Kinesiology, as well as the infamous Bionic 880. These two "llmds" also spoke at the ILADS Lyme conference 2010.

Now, who will speak at the conference and about what? On day 1 the topic is Naturopathic / Holistic Approach to Lyme Treatment. Even Klinghardt has been invited to speak. Some titbits:
  • Richard I. Horowitz, M.D.: Alternative Therapy Options
  • Dietrich Klinghardt, M.D.: Kinesiology - naturopathic therapy options for Lyme Disease
  • Carsten Nicolaus, P.h.D.: Holistic Treatment
How can this be excused any longer? How can the ILADS be taken seriously any longer?

Read on and shiver...

Abstract: Morgellons Disease Conference 2011 Austin,TX

Morgellons Disease is a skin disease, which seems to be similar to a multisystem disease. Its origin is currently not yet discovered, however over the past 2 years it became increasingly recognized as a parasite-like infection. Before that patients were mostly diagnosed with delusional parasitosis.
Most registered Morgellons patients are known to be in the US. The number of Morgellons patients is steadily increasing in Europe as well. Currently, 14 other countries apart from the USA have reported cases of Morgellons disease. There is no exact epidemiological data present in Germany to this date. Unofficial sources state that there are approximately 600 Morgellons patients registered with support groups. The estimated number of unreported cases is likely to be much higher.
The presentation will give an overview of how the disease is diagnosed and treated in our treatment centre in Germany. Besides the classical treatment options, we also have good treatment success with alternative treatments. These alternative treatment measures will be presented. This includes our experience and therapy options, which have not yet been scientifically proven.
What these folks also regularly do is associate Morgellon's with Lyme disease. Just great... NOT. This alleged Morgellons is quite dubious, let alone any association with Lyme disease.

(BTW: I just noticed that according to the info on the ILADS site Carsten Nicolaus apparently has a Ph.D, not M.D., though at other pages and sites he is referred to as "dr. Nicolaus" and/or is labelled as an M.D.)

Call it what you want, but Morgellon's/Unexplained Dermopathy IS related to Lyme.

From what I've seen, most patients with "Morgellon's" (in quotes because who knows how they are being diagnosed) are also infected with Bb.

We're still waiting to hear from the CDC study on Morgellon's, and who knows when they'll have anything to say.

While LymeLand should be cautious, I wouldn't berate them for talking about Morgellon's at their conference.

The Bionic-80000-holistic-kinesiology aspect, now that makes me mad. Way to ostracize yourselves from the mainstream medical community.

I have started a new thread to discuss this, because this is a now entering a new subject, which isn't closely related to the original subject any-more.

See new LNE topic: Morgellon's/Unexplained Dermopathy IS related to Lyme?

.

1. Will any papers be published from this conference or will there only be DVDs available for purchance?

2. Assuming papers result: will they be published in a Dove publication such as The Journal of Lyme and Related Vector-Borne Diseases, or in Townsend Letter?

3. Will any of the presenters be authors of the promised updated ILADS guidelines?

4. Will any of the findings be incorporated in the promised updated ILADS guidelines?

5. Do people in LymeLand think this enhances the authority of ILADS to the medical establishment anywhere in the world?

According to the ILADS website the 2nd International ILADS Educational Meeting in Europe (May 2011, Augsburg, Germany) was a great success. One might wonder in what way it was successful.

ILADS European conference materials are available on a searchable CD-ROM. Price: $40.00 plus $4.00 shipping domestically or $5.00 internationally. Click below to purchase CD.
While they don't seem in a hurry to update their guidelines, they are really fast with putting new conference CD-ROMs in their store.

2011 European Conference CD-ROM

The full 2011 ILADS European Lyme Disease Conference program is available now as a CD-ROM for PCs and Macs. The CD-ROM includes 13 plenary sessions in pdf form as well as nearly 200 pages of evidence based medicine written submissions to the July 30, 2009 IDSA hearings in Washington. The written presentations represent months of preparation by Lyme Disease leaders such as: Drs. Bransfield, Martz, Horowitz, Klinghardt, Nicolaus, Stricker, and many others. To view more about the conference faculty, click here. The CD-ROM is fully searchable and is a valuable tool when searching for the evidence underlying treatment recommendations.Order the CD-ROM for $40.00 and $4.00 shipping and handling domestically or $5.00 internationally by clicking on the button to the left.
"Lyme Disease leaders such as: Drs. Bransfield, Martz, Horowitz, Klinghardt, Nicolaus, Stricker, and many others." Leaders?! LOL! In what way and why? And can these "leaders" really present reliable evidence underlying their treatment recommendations? Can Klinghardt and Nicolaus show reliable evidence to support their quack methods? Can Stricker show the evidence to justify his long-term IV ceftriaxone treatments? The answer is of course a no.

Needless to say that having Klinghardt, Nicolaus and Schwarzbach at an ILADS conference is joke.

I wonder why the ILADS doesn't provide the conference material freely on their website. That would by far be the best way to disseminate their message, which they think is so important.

Since the ILADS doesn't freely provide its presentations with cutting-edge self-serving information, one had to rely on persons secretly providing them on the internet. A coughing man in a raincoat passed a note to me with the following link: http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/4321767/15 ... DS2011.pdf [PDF-alert]

It's the presentation that Steven Harris (ILADS, Igenex) gave in Augsburg:

Lyme Disease

May 28, 2011
8:40am – 9:25am
Augsburg, Germany
at the Augustana Saal, Annahof Augsburg

Steven Harris, MD
I can't image paying to sit through all those 133 slides and listening to the talking... *yawn*

Dear Martian,

I tried to download your "secret" PDF file, but I received a message saying" this file is damaged and cannot be repaired".
