Sounds like interesting research is being conducted by Catherine Brissette and her colleagues at the University of North Dakota:

“Persistence of spirochetal debris in the CNS: implications for Lyme neuroborreliosis”
6/1/2013 - 12/31/2014

“Mechanisms of B. burgdorferi penetration of the human blood brain barrier”
4/1/2014 - 9/30/2015

Just a datapoint to add here:

Catherine Brissette was mentored by Dr. Sheila Lukehart, whose area of interest is Treponema.

From your link
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on bacteria-host interactions, with a particular interest in pathogenic spirochetes. The overarching theme of my laboratory is to discover how these microbes persist and cause long-term, even lifelong, infections in their hosts.
:woohoo:
Half of what you are taught is incorrect, but which half? What if there's another half missing?
