Post by Yvonne » Thu 2 Aug 2007 15:37

I tried to shorten a link with Tiny URL.

But I became the following message :

What did I do wrong ?

Is the message from this board or is it from tinyurl.com?
It seems you are blocking cookies.

BTW: on this board long URLs are automatically parsed (made shorter).

The message was from the Tiny Url. com

That is a plus point that on this board long URLs are automatically parsed .

Fool, parsing URLs is NOT just "make them shorter".
Parsing URLs is also "converting them to a clickable string of text", amongst others.

Note: when posting either a new topic or reply there is the option: "Do not automatically parse URLs". If this box is checked when posting, URLs (in the format of http://....com or www.example.com) will stay as a standard string of text.

As you can see, I have checked the box when posting this message.

Source of the following Quote: http://www.lymeneteurope.org/forum/view ... 3575#p3575

It doesn't show the whole address because long URLs are automatically displayed shortened, but they still link to the original URL.

BTW: URLs that link to topics, posts, etc. on this forum are displayed as relative links, that is: without "http://www.lymeneteurope.org/forum/". (as you can see in this post).

So, now we have seen 3 examples of different parsings of URLs, in this and the above post.

Okay Mr. Martian know-it-all,

As a matter of fact, I had already figured that out so now I'm sticking my tongue out at you!

I figured that out because I looked back at the post I wrote, pre submit due to an edit I needed to make, and I noticed the who address was there. There you have it, learning on the fly.
