Thoroughly disgusted with violence in US

Post by Camp Other » Fri 14 Dec 2012 21:00

Today one of the worst mass shootings in US history occurred. In an elementary school. In Connecticut.

How many more shootings have to happen before someone stops this insanity?

I am thoroughly disgusted.

It is for happenings like this that people must stop pitting people against each other. You never know who is reading what you write, and who is listening. You don't know people's backgrounds. It is disgusting and beyond tragic. What has happened here in CT is done. It can never be taken back. I only hope that some people learn from this horrific tragedy and think twice before they start (or continue) launching their personal attacks, accusations, lies, and pitting people, especially ill patients, against others.

This hits extremely close to home. I live one town over and worked in Sandy Hook not that long ago (a section of Newtown, CT), this school was right around the corner, literally just down the road. I am seeing locations on the news where the reporters are standing that I was within walking distance to daily. It is a scenic, beautiful, bucolic New England town. I am stunned and deeply saddened. It is difficult to comprehend this kind of violence on innocent people and small children.

.
Please forgive me for going a bit off-topic with this utterly devastating tragedy.

On a note more in line with some of the leaders of the Lyme activist community, I ask that you,

This is too sad.
I can't do anything but light a candle.
And call my friends in Bethel CT, one town over from Newtown.
And think loving thoughts.
All my best to you and yours,

@ Bagge,

What have your comments about hatred in Lymeland and those articles you are linking to, to do with the shooting? Is there some connection?

No connection in particular to the shooting, but a connection to the rising violence in the U.S. My opinion is that if there was less hate in world, and fewer people inciting such hatred, it would lead to less violence overall and in general. The violence is disgusting, as the title of this thread indicates, but it is oftentimes fueled by hatred, greed and selfishness.

No one who is mentally stable can commit a crime like this. Normal people don't do things like that and are by far the majority. Using this tragedy to incite fear is misguided. There is a reason why guns should not be issued like tic-tac's. There is a reason why anyone suffering from mental health problems should be helped and cared for.

Have you turned on the TV lately? All forms of media spin these tragic events into fear? As if though there is a reason to fear everyone around me, when it's the minority who commit these crimes. Most of the time it's related to mental health problems, at times side-effects of medication. Let's focus on the real reasons. Enough with the trivialization of serious problems.
