Lyme Neuroborreliosis
Diagnosis and Treatment
Daniel Bremell
https://gupea.ub.gu.se/bitstream/2077/3 ... 5202_1.pdf
Originally, chronic Lyme disease (or chronic Lyme borreliosis or chronic Lyme neuroborreliosis, the terms are used interchangeably), denoted Lyme borreliosis with a duration of symptoms of more than six months, i.e. what is now more commonly called late LB [66,67].
This definition of chronic borreliosis is
still used in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Two quotes:
The term “chronic Lyme borreliosis” is equivalent to Stage III.
Disease manifestations of Lyme borreliosis which occur more than 6 months after the start of infection are designated in this Guideline as late manifestations or as chronic.

Stage 3 Lyme disease
Late or chronic Lyme disease refers to manifestations that occur months to years after the initial infection, sometimes after a period of latency. Signs and symptoms of chronic Lyme disease are primarily rheumatologic and neurologic. Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, the cutaneous feature of late-stage Lyme disease, is found almost exclusively in European patients.

A quote (Late Lyme Disease):
Late manifestations include arthritis, encephalopathy, encephalomyelitis, and peripheral neuropathy. In view of the high frequency of travel between North America and Europe, acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans was addressed, despite its rarity in North America.

This Swedish blogger already should
know that chronic borreliosis stands for late Lyme disease (i.e. an active infection for more than 6 months) in Sweden, since he is the vice president of the Swedish TBE and Borrelia Association. So when I translate what this Swedish blogger say I use IDSA:s term for a late (stage 3) infection.
Amerikanska försäkringsbolag tvingas bekosta behandling av kronisk borrelia
(US insurance companies are forced to pay for treatment of late Lyme disease)
https://newsaboutdisease.wordpress.com/ ... -borrelia/
A (partly) google translated quote:
...there is massive opposition for economic reasons not to treat late Lyme disease, but to say that there are so-called residual symptoms when the infection have lasted for more than 6 months.
I do not know where some people get their peculiar conclusions from.

A speech held by the president of the Swedish TBE and Borrelia Association in May, 2016:
CURE FOR LYME DISEASE (BOTA BORRELIA) – FOR MY INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS – MY SPEECH 29TH OF MAY
https://botaborrelia.wordpress.com/2016 ... th-of-may/
A quote:
...I am suggesting that he* has his own agenda, when he dismisses chronic lyme disease.
* Dr Mats Reimer
This is a
lie, no physician in Sweden dismisses late Lyme disease. And Dr Reimer already knows that chronic (Lyme) borreliosis stands for late Lyme disease in Sweden.
One more quote:
....when he* audaciously , in political concensus, claims that chronic lyme disease doesn’t exist.
* Dr Mikael Sandström
This is also a
lie, it is
not "political concensus" that late Lyme disease don't exist in Sweden.
But
some people in Sweden don't use the
Swedish definition of chronic (Lyme) borreliosis.
